Kindergarten 5 Year Olds.

The ABEKA phonics-based reading program is at the center of the K5 room. Children work on letter recognition, letter sounds, and blending, and by January many are reading. That early win builds confidence and a habit of reading that lasts.

Math gets real time too. Students count by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's up to 100, then work with addition, subtraction, and number patterns. Writing develops across the year, from forming letters correctly to writing full sentences.

The year ends with a formal graduation in June. Caps, gowns, and a celebration of what these young learners accomplished. After that, they are ready for first grade.

In most K5 rooms, the morning is for focused table work, and the afternoon is for play, art, and stories. Children work in small groups at phonics and math, then move to centers where they build, draw, or sort. Teachers write down what each child can do so the next day's lessons meet them where they are. Parents usually see a folder or note come home with the day's work.

The shift parents notice is reading. A child who sounded out one word in the fall reads a whole sentence by winter. Counting turns into adding. Writing turns into a note you can actually read. That leap matters because it changes how a child walks into first grade. They arrive knowing they can do the work, and that confidence stays with them.
